ABC Space Coast
Handlebars for the Holidays
It is time for the ABC FEC’s 25th annual Handlebars for the Holidays! ABC Florida East Coast chapter has held this community outreach program providing a new bike/helmet/lock package to needy children for a quarter century! We partnered with Brevard County Sheriff’s Office here on the Space Coast, eight years ago to handle all but collecting donations to pull it off. Waste Management is on our committee and does a great job year-round in spotting bike parts to resource. TPO graciously gives us helmets. Our goal this year is to fund 200 bikes and locks! We hope you’ll dig deep and be generous (every dollar helps).
Each year, ABC gives children a brand new bicycle for Christmas. Over the years, we've given thousands of deserving Florida children brand new bikes, locks and helmets for the Holidays.
These children might never own a bicycle without your help. You can donate to help purchase new bikes, helmets and locks, no donation is too small. ABC Members have each year shown their generosity through this most important drive.

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), the largest Florida commercial construction trade association, through the Florida East Coast Chapter has, since 1995, holds the Handlebars for the Holidays community involvement program. To date, we have provided over 9,000 bicycles, helmets & locks to needy children. We are proud to joint venture for the 8th year in a row with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) Bikes for Tikes effort. Every year ABC members, those in the commercial construction industry and generous citizens donate funds to Handlebars for the Holiday through ABC Cares Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) charity.
ABC member, Waste Management marks & retains disposed bikes their customers leave on collection day. A Waste Management supervisor picks up the unwanted bikes and delivers them to the Sheriff’s Office Work Farm where they are reconditioned and restored by jail inmates. Handlebars for the Holidays goes a step further, providing new (or lightly refurbished) bikes to needy children.
Through a partnership with the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization, helmets are generously provided.
On December 12, 2020, the pre-arranged children will gather at the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Work Farm, to receive their bike package.
